Mindfulness Practice for Students + Teachers

In the Classroom

Mindful
Classroom

I developed the Mindful Classroom program to support + encourage the emotional intelligence, self-awareness, compassion, and creativity of each child. With a goal to help children relax and focus, as well as support teachers in further developing a classroom culture for optimum learning, I have been bringing these teachings into the classroom since 2015.

Gena Adams-Riley has led teachers, staff, and students in Mindfulness at William Fox Elementary School over a period of two years. Equally skilled with adults and children, Gena begins with a simple premise: Mindfulness is the art of “paying attention on purpose with kindness.” Under her guidance, we’ve learned to tend joy, develop focus, and increase awareness. Over time, I began to notice a change in my students. They became kinder to each other, and they developed the ability to be kinder to themselves in the very situations they may have once found overwhelming. Gena’s program, Mindful Classroom, has strengthened the values in my classroom that I have worked hard to foster as a teacher.
